How to Use These Lists

  1. Don't memorize lists — use them as a reference while reading, listening, or speaking
  2. Add to Anki — create cards for words you want to actively know
  3. Use in sentences — for each word, try forming 2–3 sentences
  4. Group by word family — note derivatives and affixed forms
  5. Prioritize active vocabulary — aim to actively use 30–50% of each list; passive recognition of the rest comes naturally

Esperanto Word Family Pattern

For each thematic root, remember the four forms:

Form Ending Example (from "food" theme)

Adjective -a manĝa (food-related), poma (apple-)

Verb -i manĝi (to eat), pomi (to pick apples — creative)

Plus affixed forms like: manĝaĵo (food, stuff to eat), manĝejo (dining room), manĝema (gluttonous).
