Explanation

〜において marks the domain, field, setting, or context in which something takes place or is being discussed. It is the formal written equivalent of the casual particle 〜で when 〜で marks a context (not a physical tool). The attributive form 〜における appears before nouns: 「現代における問題」 (problems in the modern era).

Key point: 〜において is never used in casual conversation. When you encounter it in reading, it signals a formal or analytical text.
