Memory Hook

温 (warm) plus 度 (degree). Temperature is simply the number of degrees of warmth. A thermometer measures exactly how many 度 of 温 something has. Notice that 度 appears in many measurement words: 角度 (angle degree), 湿度 (humidity), 速度 (speed). Once you know 度 means degree or extent of measurement, a whole family of words becomes easier to guess.
