联系 works for both people (联系朋友 — contact a friend) and abstract things (事物之间的联系 — connections between things). 联系方式 (contact information) is an extremely useful phrase. Compare with 联络 (liánluò), a near-synonym that is slightly more formal and often used in official or military communication contexts.
