了解 (liǎojiě)

了解 means to understand something by actively learning about it or gathering information. It implies a deeper familiarity than simply knowing a fact (知道 zhīdào), suggesting that you have taken steps to inquire, observe, or research in order to grasp the full picture.

Usage Notes
